Lithology and Thickness
In Syria, Dolomite. Dominantly dark gray, very fine-grained to porcellaneous, siliceous, thin to medium, evenly bedded dolomite. Minor contemporaneous slump and brecciation features occur in the upper 400 feet. A conspicuous, massive, brown, porous, crystalline dolomite forms the top of the unit. 300 feet of anhydrite. (According to the paper, Khaneh Kat is a separate formation below Adaiyah, Mus, and, Alan layers, however, according to the chart, Khaneh Kat is the formation and Adaiyah, Mus, and, Alan are members of the formation.)
In Central Iraq, Dolomitic limestone. Comprises limestone consisting, in the upper part of locally recrystallized, occasionally dolomitized, pseudo-oolitic limestone, with some organic detritus, and beds of clayey limestone. The lower part of the formation comprises recrystallized and dolomitized limestone, interbedded with hard clayey limestone and subordinate calcareous shale and rare anhydrite beds. 50m thick in type section. The maximum recorded thickness is 92m at well Diwan-1 in the Salman Zone in SW Iraq.
